This has never been truer as the modern horse takes on the role of therapist in today's special needs community. At T.E.R.I., Inc's Therapeutic Equestrian Program, located in Vista, we lend our own unique perspective and design to join with other programs in enhancing motor skills, balance, coordination, self-esteem, confidence and the courage to dream of things once impossible in the hearts of children and adults with developmental disabilities. Our students face many challenges within a range of physical, mental and emotional disabilities such as: Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Brain Injury, Seizure Disorders, Down Syndrome, and ADD/ADHD. Through a well coordinated, yet relaxed program of basic horsemanship, gymnastics, physical therapy, sensory integration and game playing, their lessons are designed to meet personal therapeutic goals and build on existing abilities and strengths. This program provides tremendous benefits to its students(as well as staff and volunteers), however the care and upkeep of our "therapists" is costly to maintain and would be greatly restricted if not the generosity of the community. We are in constant need of tack in good condition, as well as grooming materials, veterinary supplies, horse feed, landscape & building materials, cash for operating expenses, and of course those special horses which make it all possible. Every donation is tax deductible and our gratitude incalculable. If you would like more information on T.E.R.I. Inc's Therapeutic Equestrian Program, and its Donor and Volunteer Opportunities, Please contact Program Director Jenell tiffany at (760)630-4298, or The Training, Education and Research Institute's main office at (760)721-1706. |
